I have posted this here as only recognised CDs can start threads in the contest section. Looks like a few UK folks have got themselves onto the start list for the German Open on Rügen in October. Equally, their thoughts are turning to how to prepare for the incredible experience that is Rügen. It is likely they will be looking for practice slopes, and to practice effectively I can see small 'self help' groups getting together on small slopes with a course set up. It will be fun! All the slopes on the island are different. They range from Goor, which is a pretty conventional steep sloping coastal slope, 30-40m high, and fairly easy landings, thru Wind Kanal, which is a lovely curving slope, but rotor on landing, to Kap Arkona which is very high, nowhere to stand with trees on the edge, and an impossible run of more than 100m underneath a tunnel of trees before walking to the landing area. Vitt is a pretty conventional sea slope with some bushes that spring up (!), but vicious rotor in stronger winds. Then there is Turbulator which is ok in lightish winds, but very challenging in higher wind speeds. So, we have 9 months to plan, practice and have fun! Simon
