Homebrew servo frames with exterior bearing

Recommended Posts

I thought I’d try my hand at making my own servo frames and exterior bearings. This is my first success, and I shall be making four like it (with minor variations from this prototype) to go in the Extreme that was lost in the forest for years. It drives an old-style pushrod, but I’m working on machining my own LDS output arm, which is not proving easy.

Wood parts from 4mm ply took about 20minutes of machine time, which I spent reprogramming the machine to produce 4 bearing mounts instead of one:

Bearing mounts are from 5mm epoxy glass, and take almost half an hour. I used the time to clean up the wood parts, during which I realised that I’d forgotten to modify the program to put the drill holes in the servo retaining plates! I did this by hand on the prototype, so I guess I’lll have to do it the same way again.
