The format of the day is:

9:30 field opens
10:45 pilots briefing
11:00 to 15:00 competition window
15:00 fly off if necessary/prize ceremony

Entry fee is £15, (£10 to the landlord and £5 to the prize fund)

FxRES is a 2m soaring class with models constructed mainly from wood. Competitions are a variant of the FAI F3L provisional class, that has a simple format with a 4 hour window where competitors can fly up to 10 timed flights (6 min max), best 6 flights count, no landing bonus. This allows F3L and F5RES to compete alongside each other but have different score sheets. A competitor can fly both classes if they wish.
Full set of rules is 7.24 in the SF rule book , BMFA membership is a must. F5RES height limiters set to 100m/30seconds, bungees are provided, please do not use your own?

With effect from 1st January 2022, BMFA General Rules have changed to require competition models to display of either the owner’s BMFA number or their FAI registration number in UK competitions.
The reason is to prove ownership of the model. All entrants in any event must be the owner of the model and must display the owner’s number.
All models other than Scale or Indoor Free Flight must be clearly marked with the owner’s membership number on the upper surface of the wing in letters at least 19 mm high
(Note - The FAI requirement is that the alpha/numeric characters are at least 25 mm high)

If my back stays good then I plan to be there on Saturday.    Weather looks good again!  4 comps in a row with good weather is unheard of!

As it's local will bring dad with me again.   Flying site looks lush from Google maps.

Hope turn out is good.  I would encourage anyone to attend.  Friendly, simple competition format, relaxed and well run.

Just to say that its been a week since I was completely unable to walk due to a bad back (twisted and rotated pelvis with muscles in extreme spasm, which wrecked my bank hol weekend but pushed up the share price of Nurofen)!  Now finally seen the chiropractor and things are settling down, but wary of a five-hour round trip with a heavy clutch...!

So hope to make it, but need to see how it feels at 6am tomorrow morning.

Morphine is a wonderful thing Jon - just make sure you take enough to kill the pain, but not too much that you hallucinate and see elephants or what ever sitting in your passenger seat!  Been there & done it with the back pain, so hope you recover enough to make the journey to the wilds of Shropshire.

Thanks John.  I've been successfully managing the issue for a few years now (no longer furniture-making, have radically reduced stress factors and long-distance driving, increased gentle exercise and long walks - it helps having a young Cocker Spaniel! - plus Pilates) so haven't had it this bad in a very long time... then suddenly KA-BANG!!

Today, whilst standing at my high work-table gingerly making a prop-pitch gauge for Peanut models, I turned sideways to pick up a 1.5mm diameter drill-bit... and KA-OW!!

So I'll not be risking the next month for the sake of tomorrow... wish everyone a successful comp!

How did the comp go today?

Great day Jon. Lovely flying location. Lawrence set up a pole with mylar streamer.  Some booming lift, some tricky lift and plenty of sink.   8 mph, gusting over 14, with periods of calm as the lift was overhead.    Really warmed up in the afternoon.    I flew F5 first and switched to F3 after lunch.

Was only really the last hour where the clouds rolled in and made the maxes difficult.  I needed another 30 mins to complete the double.  Full on busy day.

Would have liked a few more entrants so need to spread the word.  Fingers crossed for good weather at the next meet and Radioglide.

Big thanks to the organisers. Congrats to Lawrence for winning F3L.   Sadly still no head to heads and landing bonus in the fly offs.

A great day. You either went up very fast or came down faster.  Very tricky and the wind was at and sometimes above the upper limit of my lightweights.  A fantastic day though.

I can only second the thanks and compliments above to Martin and Lawrence.  An excellent day despite I suspect coming last again (excepting James perhaps!) with a  big thanks to Lawrence for his coaching as I achieved my first max. I learned a lot yesterday and might actually be getting the hang of this game

Glad you enjoyed it Pete - it was good to see you there again.  It's folk like you who travel long distances to compete who will help push the numbers of participants in this class - the enthusiastic ones who want to beat their previous best results and who don't get disheartened by the top guys getting 6 maxes all the time.  And if a Graupner Amigo and a Gentle Lady can get two maxes each, it also shows that anyone can compete with any woodie 2m glider.  It doesn't have to be the latest expensive hot shot model, but how good a thermal pilot you are that counts for more.
