I think you might find ellipses in quite startling colour combinations in some of Bridget Riley's more recent work.

quite promising actually - I had got as far as thinking of a tilting ellipse sequence - but not both ways at once!

Everything looks much better superimposed on the airframe.  I suspect your black background for the initial work is making things look a bit harsh.

Good observation - medium grey would probably work better

I'm just using Powerpoint - and that background is actually a mask so designs which run "off the edge" can be done easily - they just go behind the mask (if you keep bringing it to the front)
