Toro battery to allow for telemetry power

I am currently awaiting delivery of a Toro (receiver ready build) and I would like to ideally add telemetry to allow me to consider launch height and vario etc.

I am a spektrum user but the TM1000 telemetry model is 13g on its own so will be heavy with a rx and the various sensors. I have however managed to find the lemon LM0052U rx which is only 5.3g I believe with the shell removed.

It seems that the rx however needs a 2s lipo.

The RR build comes with Bluebird 101 servos which I understand can take 1s lipo (maybe 2s).

So what battery would people recommend. I have not seen the model yet so pod size is unknown to me at the mo?

I use uncased LM0052 receivers in DLGs.

They work really well btw. The only reservation I have is about where to route the antennas when there is so much carbon around. 

As for battery power... 2S LiFe if space allows or 1S LiPo with a 5v booster if not. I've also got some small 4.8v NiMH packs but they are quite heavy so only used if nose weight is needed.

I've found with DLGs you need to buy a specialist battery (or more!) for each model. Not found two that use the same pack!!!

Can the bluebird bms101 AMG servos be run on 2s lipo??? It seems not from my understanding of lipos but I am by no means an expert?

Can they be made to run on 2s?

Only if they are the HV version. 

With that rx, your best bet with the servos you have will be a 5v booster. 

Normal set up would be 1s direct with the Spektrum or Frsky rx's, unfortunately that Lemon one the minimal voltage is something like 4.5v.

Does that mean that if the voltage drops below 4.5v the rx or servos stop working or would the telemetry just stop?

Yes, with those Lemon rx with the built in vario you have to use 2s Lipo or 4cell NIMH as a minimum. Although I only use genuine Spektrum rx's myself. 

Spekky rx's like the 6260/6270T/ar410 all work very well on 1s direct, as do the Frsky rx's. I stop flying at 3.7v. My current fave Spekky rx is the antenna-less 410, flown it in the NXT and have one in my NRJ and one ready for my Vortex 3, doesn't have all the bells and whistles of others but I don't need it, just battery voltage which it does have. Brilliant little rx, absolutely rock solid. 

Most of the popular servos are great on 1s too like the KST 08, MKS75, SD100, BB 101 and the A10.

Then servos like the KST 08 and SD100 are both 1s and 2s compatible straight out the box. With the BB 101 and MKS you need the HV version for 2s direct. 

I personally never use boosters or regulators, straight 1s lipo direct for me, nice and simple and servos are plenty fast and powerful enough. You get your exact battery voltage via telemetry also that way.

Me too usually!

My Vibe2 has an AR410 running off a 1S LiPo. Hope to get some flights in tomorrow either before or after flying full size  :)

Certainly interested in the 6270T as ideally want telemetry to include altitude (I have an altitude sensor which I usually run with the tm1000).

Ar410 is also interesting.

If anyone has a spare of these laying around I would happily compensate you to take them off your hands.

Right now your best bet is the 6270T to plug your vario direct into it and still be able to run it on 1s. 

Only downside is the £60-70 asking price.

AR410 is really nice but it can't accept the TM1000 so all you get is the built in flight log and rx batt voltage on flyby telemetry range. There is something nice coming from Spektrum, the 6610T which is end pin with built in vario and has the new internals like the 410 (much more sensitive) but when we see them is anyones guess. 

I suppose just to get in the air with the gear you have or on the cheap will be a booster/reg or one of the other 6ch diversity rx's from lemon which I think are 3.5v minimum so you can use a 1s lipo but are not telemetry rx's. Get's you at least flying quickly without spending too much.

This will run your lemon RX fine. Only issue is you get no telemetry for the state of the RX battery. It will always be 5V

I tried to input the actual 1S voltage into the voltage sensing telemetry port, but you always get zero..After some discussion the lemon tech team it was confirmed that the lowest voltage you could read was 4.5V. Still too high. They did not see this as an issue because the RX would not function anyway. 

Tried to think of a simple electronic circuit to add 5V to the actual 1S voltage. But with a 1S cell, booster and circuit the whole thing would the size of a 2S battery anyway. Hyperflight do a 2S 175 mah battery that might fit?

I have now switched to FrSky, partly because of this, but also to get the advanced programming features of OpenTX

If it looks like the 2S 175mah might fit, I have a couple spare as I see hyperflight are out of stock. Anyway it just a nanotech with the label taken off.

Trouble is he has the standard voltage BB 101 servos from what he’s described so he still needs a reg even if he goes 2s. 

I suppose something inline between the rx and servos like those little regulators MKS used to see could work so he can still use his rx and 2S batteries?

Thanks guys, excellent info and very much appreciated.

I'm going to keep an eye out for the 6270t but will likely get the 410 initially so I have the battery info at least and can get up in the air.

Hopefully it will provide a signal in the Toro pod?

Will be fine, like I said i used mine in a NXT/NRJ and one will be my Vortex 3 if I come out of retirement and get that plane built. 

All I do is make sure that the rx is on the bottom of the pod with the battery on top when it’s flying so my tx has a direct line of sight to the rx, don’t wanna be having it on top of the battery. 

I test mine in range check mode and I move the plane around 360, no issues from signal shadow anywhere.
