BMFA F3F Nationals 20-21st April at the Bwlch
MikeE replied to mtreble's topic in UK F3F Contest Entries
Time for afternoon tea and cake. . (Porthcawl has been a lovely host for 11 nights. Cycling walking flying and eating ice cream.) Thanks to MarkT for keeping us in order. A good comp with loads of flying done. -
CCM have announced their brand new F3F / F3B / F3G model called the VANTAGE RACE. Using their experience gained from the popular and very successful VANTAGE the VANTAGE RACE incorporates many new design features together with outstanding quality. Take a look at the Flightech website for further details. https://www.flightech.co.uk/product/new-vantage-race-from-ccm/

Call for interest in a Comp Monday 6th May (Bank holiday) Please post here if you’re interested in a day’s flying at Little Bentley Polo ground in Essex this coming bank holiday Monday.. Only F5L this time because of the 11th hour organisation! Rules would be as per last year, i.e. 10 flights in 4 hours, best 6 to count for score. There’s been so little decent weather, it would be a shame not to take advantage of this opportunity. Forecast looks promising and the site is good. If there’s 6 or more interested in competing, then it would be viable.

"Come, fill the Cup, and in the Fire of Spring The Winter Garment of Repentance fling: The [Early] Bird of Time has but a little way To fly - and Lo! the Bird is on the Wing." (From The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam - not referencing the classic sailplane) So get registered for Interglide now: Earlybird registration closes 30 April (£25 & includes draw for free entry 2025) Standard registration is still available up to 17 June (£35 - which is still cheaper than last year). https://www.interglide.co.uk/online-entry-form/

Does it have a retract fitted. -
Hi @tonym Thanks for the offer. I'm in SW London and quite rarely go that side of the world unfortunately. If you're near London at any point let me know. Out of interest how much do you want? DM me if you want. Cheers
-
@mrj I'm considering selling my XXLite and my Steigeisen DLGs. Both are in reasonable nick, just add battery and Rx, set up your Tx and they're ready to go. Where are you in the country? Posting these things isn't an option. I'm in north Essex, between Colchester and Ipswich.

Another nose repair - canopy style

It helps that they are only a few miles away from me so I can nip in and pick up supplies and save postal costs as I drive by there fairly regularly. There is also a brilliant set of training / how to videos on their website too. John M - Yesterday

Just following up on this. Where is a good place to look for a second hand 1.5m Carbon DLG? Looking to get into DLG. Thanks
-
Hi Bill, I was looking for the silicone tubing as it’s known to be more durable and resistant to breaks. So for only a little more, I’m going to buy some of that new, next week, Unless anyone else happens to come along with one they aren’t using before then. Thanks a lot for your help. Much appreciated. Will.

BMFA F3F Nationals 20-21st April at the Bwlch
mtreble replied to mtreble's topic in UK F3F Contest Entries
We rolled up to the wrecker this morning and were greeted with generally clear conditions, with a little but of damp in the air. The course was set up and we were racing by 10:30 in wind speeds between 9 and 14 m/s. We flew 5 rounds before a bit of low cloud and light rain came through at about 2:30. This soon cleared by 3 o'clock and we flew another 3 rounds. Scores after 8 rounds: 1 Mark Redsell 6872.5 2 Andy Burgoyne 6651.37 3 Mike Shellim 6490.46 4 Graeme Mahoney 6456.87 5 John Philips 6370.55 6 Dave Rumble 6306.15 7 Mike Evans 6301.97 8 Mark Treble 6209.38 9 Les Woods 6127.17 10 Bruce Hudson 5990.77 Fastest time: 34.6 by Andy Burgoyne in round 4 Tomorrow looks like sunshine and ice cream, so we shall meet at 9:30 at the T-Junction. -
FS4 gone up on BMFA classifieds this afternoon. Nice orange (sorry Phil) and black scheme. Nothing to with me but if you haven’t spotted it….

The note written by Andy Sefton says rubber. I could send you it and you can have a look. I got it from Andy who was one , if not the instigator of the glider class , who told me it was the proper bungee. My model was electric and did not have a tow hook at the time hence it is unused. Bill

Hi Bill, sorry for delayed response. Looks interesting, but quick question. Is this natural rubber or silicone? will

Good find, John!

Hi John there will be a new phone number listed shortly but the old Shrub Hill address is no longer in use. Kind regards
-
Anyone else keen to go? Kohen can't make it and it would be nice to go with someone.

F5L Medina : 26/04/2024 - 18m58s Approx 1130h - Sutton Valance - Cloudy, Wind - NE 4-5mph ~ 12'c. Some improvement on previous but nothing amazing. Lots of 15-16m flights. On this site the thermals seem to kick off only slightly upwind of the launch area, so most flying is downwind, i dont know how typical this is. Probably because the site is slightly south of a hill and the wind has been northerly. Getting back upwind with enough altitude to find another decent thermal seems to be the challenge - I guess this is thermal soaring. On this flight I hooked a few thermals heading back from downwind but with each one needed to leave and head back upwind before gaining enough altitude to offset the height lost previously. Still great fun and improving my skills and feel for the site and aircraft.

Found it - this stuff https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/composites-shrink-tape Will give this a try Phil.

Mine is the barcs setup. £22 posted 10 m 6/4 rubber and 50m 30lb line Bill
-
Thanks for clarifying that Neil. I see there is no phone number now on the website, so presumably email is the only comms possible? Also the Shrub Hill (your old premises) map is on there, is that correct? John M

John Minchell replied to Phil.Taylor's topic in Builders Workshop
Easy Composites do a flat tape which can be spiral wound around a boom and then heat shrunk as well. Starts at £3.60 for a 10m roll. And the CF fishing rod repair kits have everything you need to do this type of repair. John M - Last week
